National Criterium Championships 2014

Familiar Faces

Going to keep this one short so my posts do not get out of order while I am in Belgium.... But the team plan from the get go was to race for a field sprint with Cory and Brandon.

As the race progressed I made it to the front and was able to cover moves to try to keep everyone in one group to give our sprinters a better chance. There were not as many crashes as I thought there was going to be, but the 4 off camber corners around the capital, as well as the long rivets running parallel to the race direction made things a little dicey. As things were starting to come close to the finish I saw that Cory got a flat with 5 laps to go... inside the free lap rule. This put all the pressure on Brandon to try to get a result. With 3 laps to go I saw Brandon sitting in great position near the front of the race as the speed started to slow down. To keep him safe I was able to get to the front and string things out for a lap going into 2 laps to go.

Brandon was able to sprint for a top five result getting 4th on the day. We were all slightly disappointed
with the way things turned out for the team. We had a strong team with the 3 of us for a field sprint, but with a late race flat and some less then ideal conditions for Brandon going into the last corner our hopes for the top step of the podium were just out of reach.
